Thank you for making our 2023 Survival Skills Week a success. Check back soon for updates on our 2024 class schedule.

Basic Survival Skills

Come out to nature on the Molalla River with your friends or make new ones along the way. Learn important basic survival skills.

Classes will include: Finding north, navigation, how to start a fire without matches or lighters, how to survive in cold and/or wet weather, building a simple shelter, finding and preparing edible foods found in nature (in a controlled environment). Students will also learn what to do at home during an emergency including shutting off power, water, and natural gas, how to stay warm in winter months, how to store and prepare food without power or gas, and charging communication devices without electricity. We will also teach the essential elements that should be included in an emergency supply kit.

Thursday of Survival Skills is overnight. Students will set up their tents, make their dinner, and Friday morning breakfast together. Evening activities around a campfire and field games will also take place.

Summer Staff College Interns working for Jump-in will join survival skills throughout the week and on Thursday’s overnight session. Summer Staff has been highly vetted and hand-picked and had background checks. Boys will sleep in all-boy tents and girls in all-girl tents. All tents will have at least three people in them. We take the safety of your student very seriously and take every precaution to make sure they are cared for well.
